LOG BASKET INFORMATION

As we carry many different designs and sizes of log basket the following may assist you with your selection:-

MATERIALS

WILLOW

The traditional British material for basket making comes in many forms.   Buff willow, rustic or green willow used with the bark on.    White willow, for log baskets, is used to provide a decorative stripe.

GREEN ASH
This is slightly heavier than willow but is stronger.    Due its nature it is not as flexible as willow and cannot be woven as accurately, leaving a more open rustic look.

RATTAN
Is a solid flexible material of great tensile strength.   Thin rattan makes reasonably light, strong baskets.    Thick rattan makes very strong heavy baskets.    Finishes include: – natural, polished, weathered/aged and water based grey wash finish.

POINTS TO CONSIDER:

SHAPE AND SIZE
To fit a specific area; round, square or rectangular.   We also offer a selection of wheeled logs for ease of movement.

USAGE
Do you want to use your basket for carrying logs or just to have as a store in your house or outside?    Baskets for carrying should not be bigger than about 50 cm  diameter or square, due to the weight they will hold.   For bigger sizes consider having castors or wheels fitted.   We can do this for most baskets but it entails additional cost and time.   Prices start from £35 per basket for castors and £45 per basket for wheels.   We do stock some baskets already fitted.    For outside use, preferably in a shelter or porch, thick rattan or green ash are the best materials.   Where possible keep the base up off the floor by placing on battens.    Liners – we stock  baskets fitted with hessian liners, some of which are removable.
